Porcelain Veneers

Serving Greater Southern Maine and the New Hampshire Seacoast.

Porcelain veneers are a secret weapon of cosmetic dentists worldwide. Many dental clients come to us with the belief that they need major tooth restoration or restructuring when, in actuality, porcelain veneers are often a quick and affordable solution to many cosmetic dental problems. The veneers are thin shells made of porcelain, which are then bonded to the front surfaces of teeth. Veneers can mask a large variety of tooth defects and, because they are made of porcelain, they blend in beautifully with natural tooth enamel.

What Porcelain Veneers Can Do

Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells of ceramic material. They are bonded to the front surfaces of teeth in order to provide a new, more attractive and balanced tooth appearance. If you are looking for an easy solution to tooth defects, veneers require very little removal of enamel and can be placed on a single tooth or several teeth at once. Veneers are a great option for clients with gaps between their teeth, chipped teeth, stains or discoloration, broken teeth that do not require a crown, and misshapen teeth. For clients choosing veneers to mask structural tooth issues, the ability to achieve a whiter tooth appearance is a true bonus.

Porcelain veneers have earned the nickname “instant orthodontics” because they give the appearance of straight teeth and work well for clients who do not need to physically reposition teeth with braces.

The Veneer Placement Process

After you visit Kennebunk Center for Dentistry for an initial consultation, you will schedule your design appointment where you will learn about Empress veneers, on of the State of the Art materials we use.We will listen to your cosmetic goals and talk about your desired smile, including your desired shape and color for your smile.

Your dentist will begin by slightly grading the enamel to make room for the veneer and ensure a secure fit and smooth final surface. Then they will take an impression of the tooth. From this information, our skilled lab technicians will develop your smile in wax, idealizing your smile. Then, the impressions and wax mock-up are sent to a dental lab for fabrication. While your new smile is being made you will be smiling with provisionals that look and feel like your new veneers.

Once your new veneers are finished, your cosmetic dentist can check the fit, fine-tune the color match, and permanently bond it in place.

If you need only one or two veneers, you can take advantage of our CEREC dental technology that allows your veneers to be manufactured during the same visit, allowing for maximum convenience.

Remember that veneers are a cosmetic smile makeover treatment and are not usually chosen when clients require structural tooth enhancement. If your teeth are damaged from decay, injury, or worn-down fillings, you may need a dental crown or other restoration options.
