Bridges
Serving Greater Southern Maine and the New Hampshire Seacoast.
If you have a tooth missing, a dental bridge is an effective way to fill the space and achieve a natural appearance. A dental bridge is comprised of a false tooth set in between two dental crowns that attach to the two neighboring teeth. Because the false tooth is anchored by the crowned teeth, the tooth replacement is exceptionally strong and stable. The bridge is held in place by bonded resin cements.
Your Dental Bridge Options
There are a few different variations of the dental bridge for you to choose from. Your Kennebunk dentist will recommend a type of dental bridge, based on your dental health needs and the location of the tooth gap.
Traditional Fixed Bridge (the most common type) — With the traditional bridge, a false tooth is bordered by two neighboring teeth that are placed with dental crowns.
Resin-Bonded Bridge — Resin-bonded bridges are generally recommended for use on front teeth since they put far less strain on neighboring teeth. Instead of being attached to dental crowns, the resin bridge is fused to metal bands that are bonded to surrounding teeth with a special resin.
Cantilever Dental Bridge — Cantilever bridges are recommended for use when a missing tooth is bordered on only one side by a healthy tooth.
What Happens During a Dental Bridge Placement
Your brand new, beautiful dental bridge can be placed in just two short visits to our Kennebunk dental practice. During your first appointment, your dentist will prepare the neighboring teeth and take an impression of the space. A temporary bridge is created for you to wear while the permanent fixture is being crafted in our laboratory. When you return, your bridge is carefully bonded into place and adjusted with your guidance.
Your dentist will work with you to ensure your new dental bridge not only looks natural, but fits comfortably, too.
At Kennebunk Center for Dentistry, our skilled dental professionals have helped countless clients achieve permanent tooth replacements with dental bridgework. If you are wondering whether a dental implant or dental bridge is a better choice for your tooth replacement, we invite you to sit down and discuss your needs with our team.
